Summer Farm Fun

Historic barns, fruit-laden orchards, pastoral landscapes – the charm of the New Jersey countryside sets the scene for a day or a weekend that will transport you to simpler times. We’ve collected some of the most popular farms in the state for you to explore this summer. A few on the list offer overnight stays as well. All of them are blooming with excitement. All you have to do is take your pick.

Day Trips: U-Pick Farms, Farm Tours & More

New Jersey isn’t called the Garden State for nothing. Load up with fresh fruits at Alstede Farms in Chester, where you can pick your own in-season fruits and veggies – including blueberries, raspberries, peaches, beans and more. Check out the farm’s active events calendar for loads of family fun – from pony and tractor-pulled wagon rides to festivals and live entertainment.

At Cherry Grove Farm in Lawrenceville, join one of the guided pasture walks to learn about the farm’s operations and sustainable practices. Hands-on cheesemaking and other foodie-fun classes are also available on the farm.

For a farm-fresh dining experience, visit Cecil Creek Farm in Mickleton, where you can stock up on seasonal fruits, vegetables, meats, honey, cheeses and more – harvested from their fields or other local farms or stop by The Café for farm-to-fork breakfast and lunch favorites.

Overnight Experiences: Farm Inns

Looking to escape the everyday and extend your stay in the country? Reserve a room or suite at the tranquil Woolverton Inn in Stockton, a bed and breakfast nestled into 300 acres of farmland and forests. You can enjoy a complimentary three-course country breakfast in the morning before strolling the bucolic grounds.

If you’re an oenophile (a connoisseur of wines), consider a vineyard stay at Renault Winery in Egg Harbor City. One of the oldest continuously operating wineries in the nation, Renault offers gourmet dining and beautifully appointed rooms. The winery is also a spectacular place to hold a once-in-a-lifetime wedding, banquet or corporate event.

Enjoy vineyard vistas, wine tastings, wine-paired events and tours during your stay at Willow Creek Winery & Farm in West Cape May. Six stunning rental cottages situated on the grounds are also a popular option for summer as well as during the fall harvest and spring blooming seasons.
