Camden

The Camden Waterfront is the big story in this riverside city with stellar views of the Philadelphia skyline.

There’s so much to do here, you may never want to cross the bridge to the big city. Choose from performing arts, family-friendly outings, big fish and lots of history.

Wildly popular Adventure Aquarium lets you roll up your sleeves and touch sea cucumbers, starfish, stingrays and even sharks (friendly bottom-dwelling ones, that is).

The 550,000-gallon shark exhibit, which has a walk-through tunnel, houses more than two dozen of the sharp-toothed predators and the aquarium is one of only two in the country with a hammerhead shark.

Other popular attractions include African penguins, seals and Nile hippos. On offer at the 4-D theater: Planet Earth and – hold on to your pineapple – SpongeBob SquarePants.

The Camden Waterfront also includes the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial, where you can climb aboard the U.S. Navy’s most decorated battleship.

Or catch a baseball game at award-winning Campbell Field, home of the Camden Riversharks minor league baseball team. Wee ones can frolic at the Camden Children’s Garden.

For music lovers there's Susquehanna Bank Center. The year-round facility is a 25,000 capacity outdoor amphitheater during the summer months, which features a lawn and video screens, computerized sound enhancement with a clear view of the Philadelphia skyline and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.

In the fall and winter months the center converts to a fully-enclosed, climate-controlled theater for up to 7,000 visitors to see concerts, Broadway productions and family entertainment.

Insider Tip:
The waterfront is where you’ll find the Susquehanna Bank Center, a unique performing arts center that features major entertainers.

During the winter, it’s a regular venue, but come summer, its retractable roof slides open to let the sun shine in.
