Flemington
Outlet shopping, Victorian homes, the trial of the century (well, the 1930s anyway) and riveting railways – Flemington’s attractions are numerous and diverse.
If you’re a train aficionado, head to Northlandz (495 Rt. 202 S.), which houses the world’s largest miniature railroad, with more than 100 trains navigating eight miles of track. The exhibit meanders for a mile and includes minute mountains, cities and bridges.
Ride the Raritan River Railway, a replica steam train located here; for a longer excursion, take the scenic Black River and Western Railroad, which runs between Flemington and Ringoes.
The station at the Flemington end is conveniently adjacent to Liberty Village Premium Outlets, with 40 outlet stores, ranging from cookware to kids' clothes and including perennial favorites J. Crew, Coach (June 2010) and Timberland.
For a more historic look at the town, stop by its oldest building, the 1756 Flemington Castle Museum.
