Kick-Off Summer Right
Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer and in New Jersey that means there is plenty to celebrate. The beautiful beaches that line the State’s 130 miles of coastline open for the season and you will find many of the local towns hosting festivals for the big holiday weekend.
Join in the family fun at the Township of Ocean Founder’s Day on May 24 in Waretown with free children’s rides, live music, a pet parade, fireworks and more than 100 vendors. In the evening, enjoy free concerts on the public dock during the city of Barnegat’s Memorial Day Concerts on May 24 and May 25.
The 25th anniversary of the Cape May Music Festival launches May 25 and runs through June 12, featuring classical, chamber and a world tradition series. Cape May will also have the Crafts and Antiques Show for Memorial Day on May 25, where you can browse or buy treasures such as country crafts, folk art, custom-designed jewelry, antiques and a selection of Victorian items.
More crafts can be found during the Maplewood Street Fair & Craft Show in Maplewood and the Summit Street Fair & Craft Show in Summit. Both will take place on May 25 and boast more than 200 artists, crafters and vendors with free admission.
The 34th annual May Fair in Collingswood on May 24 is expected to attract more than 50,000 people looking to enjoy the work of over 200 artists and crafters during a juried show. The event will also feature three stages of live music, plenty of food, antique and classic auto show and some Harley-Davidson motorcycles on display. A special “KidZone" with pony rides, carnival games, rides and children-friendly crafters will be available.
The Tour of Somerville Cycling Series spans over three-days from May 24 to 26. Competitive cycle professionals and amateurs will meet in Raritan, Bound Brook and Somerville. The free event ends with a bang on Memorial Day with the 50-mile Kugler-Anderson Memorial Tour of Somerville, considered to be the “Kentucky Derby of Cycling.” It dates back to 1940 and is the oldest major bicycle race in the U.S. Watch the action and enjoy the vendors, live music, kids’ pavilion and food.
