Meadowlands
The Meadowlands has two very different meanings, depending upon your interests. If you have a taste for action, the award-winning Meadowlands Sports Complex won’t disappoint.
And if you’re a nature lover, the New Jersey Meadowlands is the place to explore native wetlands, birds and other animals.
On the sporting side of things, there’s never a dull moment, starting with the New Meadowlands Stadium that opened in the summer of 2010. It's where two NFL teams – the Jets and the 2007 Super Bowl Champion Giants – play their home games.
And don’t forget fast-paced racing action at The Meadowlands Racetrack or IZOD Center. The IZOD Center is the scene of major concerts and many other family events including Disney on Ice, Ringling Bros. Circus and Harlem Globetrotters.
The Meadowlands Environment Center (2 DeKorte Plaza, Lyndhurst) is where to go when you need some down time.
The trails here are short vacations into a world of cedar swamps, salt marshes and wetlands. More than 220 species of native birds and other small animals call the area home and birdwatchers are especially keen on the egrets and blue herons that nest here.
Don’t miss:
• The Hambletonian, the legendary summer harness race held at The Meadowlands Racetrack early August.
• The annual Festival of Birding, held each September at the Environment Center in partnership with the Hackensack Riverkeeper.
