Mullica Hill

Set deep in New Jersey’s scenic southern farmlands, Mullica Hill, settled in the late 17th century and built mostly during the Civil War era, has the best of the past and present.

With the entire town on the National Register of Historic Places, Mullica Hill’s authentic historical background makes it an especially interesting spot for antiquers. There are nearly three dozen antiques shops here, most of which are located near or on Main Street, many occupying buildings as old as their wares.

The Old Mill Antique Center (1 Main St.) has three floors of hidden treasures housed in a pre-Revolutionary War mill. Also on Main Street are boutiques, galleries, restaurants and cafes, all of which draw shoppers and strollers to the charming town.

A number of special events are held throughout the year, including the Antiques Street Fair in April, a June Festival of Antiques, a Ghost Walk in October and Christmas House Tours.

Don’t miss:
• Blueplate restaurant (47 S. Main St.) for gourmet home-cooked meals
• Stir It Up Coffee House (48 N. Main St.) for concerts and art shows along with great java and snacks
• The Amish Farmer’s Market for fresh-from-the farm produce, cheeses, meats, baked goods, candy, sandwiches and more

Insider tip: Just a bit down Route 322 from Mullica Hill is Heritage Vineyards (480 Mullica Hill Rd.), an award-winning winery on a 100-acre farm. Visitors can tour the cellar and taste some of the popular varietals. After sampling, you can purchase some of the 54,000 bottles they produce each year.
