New Jersey’s Own Barnegat Light is Among the Nominees for One of “America’s Top Ten Coolest Small Towns!”
(TRENTON) – Cast your vote for Barnegat Light today to determine the readers’ top 10 American small towns. Voting ends May 9th!
Budget Travel Magazine is holding a web exclusive contest for “America's Coolest Small Towns.” Barnegat Light has been selected as one of 21 nominees from coast to coast.
This seaside village, located between Barnegat Bay and the Atlantic Ocean on the northern tip of Long Beach Island, is home to Old Barney, the iconic red-and-white lighthouse for which the town was named and remains a symbol of the state's proud maritime heritage.
In addition to hosting sustainable fisheries, Barnegat Light is home to the non-profit ReClam the Bay, which raises baby mollusks to reintroduce to a bay that attracts a bustling fishing community. What’s more, in a state where the diner is king, Mustache Bill's became the country's first diner to be designated an America's Classic by the prestigious James Beard Foundation in 2009.
“More people than ever will be considering day trips closer to home, and with it comes a greater competition for vacation and tourism dollars,” said Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno. “We’re hoping this contest will continue to stimulate excitement about not only Barnegat Light and New Jersey, but also its crown jewel – over 130 miles of beautiful Jersey Shore beaches.”
