New Jersey Chamber Singers' 35th Anniversary concert, A Baroque Feast, draws inspiration from one of the most famous stories in music history. While employed in Arnstadt, the young J.S. Bach took an unauthorized leave of absence (for several months) to visit the great composer/organist, Dieterich Buxtehude in Lübeck. This journey was just over 250 miles by foot, each way. While there, Bach heard a beautiful cantata that influenced his compositional mind so much that he began writing cantatas in the style of Buxtehude. Joined by some of the Northeast's best baroque instrumentalists, we will authentically perform Buxtehude's cantata that changed music history, Membra Jesu Nostri.
