Event Description

The Dey Mansion/ Washington's Headquarters 1780, now re-opened after being closed for a 15 month restoration, will be celebrating the holidays with a Dutch Christmas. Come see re-enactors, musket and military drills, colonial dancers, 18th century music, hearth cooking, crafters, demonstrations, and more..

The Dey Mansion, a superb example of Georgian architecture, achieved national recognition as General George Washington's revolutionary war headquarters in the Preakness Valley and is considered to be the "Jewel of the Passaic County Park's Department". Constructed in 1772 by Theunis Dey, colonel of the Bergen County Militia and a contemporary of Washington, the mansion is an amalgam of Dutch and English influences, a rich and dramatic composition of country and urban elements that had few mid-18th century counterparts west of the Hudson River.
