Event Description

Take a look at the historical development of reporting presidential elections, from Washington to Obama, through the lens of rare, original newspaper copies and related items describing those elections. The exhibit's timeline includes the matter-of-fact coverage of Washington's election, front page depictions of Lincoln's coffin, assorted splashy partisan reporting and bold tabloids, the infamous "Dewey Defeats Truman" Chicago Tribune headline, and coverage of the disputed elections of 1876 and 2000. Also on view is the first Thomas Nast cartoon depicting both the Republican elephant and the Democratic donkey.

Acorn Hall is open Wednesdays & Thursdays from 11 am - 4 pm, and Sundays from 1 - 4 pm. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's days.
