Located in a rustic 19th century building, which served as a lock tender’s house on the Morris Canal, the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum offers an entertaining and enlightening look at the history of New Jersey’s largest lake. Recognized as one of the finest small museums in New Jersey, a visit will bring you back to an era when Lake Hopatcong was a major northeastern resort and some 40 hotels and rooming houses graced its shores. From celebrities to castles to amusement parks, Lake Hopatcong had it all. The Museum is located on the grounds of Hopatcong State Park in Landing, just off of Rt. 80 W. at exit 28.

Directions

From the E. Rt. 80 W. to Exit 28. Follow signs towards West Shore. At traffic light by lake make left turn. State Park entrance will be about 1/2 mile ahead on right. From the W. Rt. 80 E. to Netcong (Rt. 183). Left at Main St. to end. Right then quick left onto Center St. (by old theater building). Take until street ends at jug handle. Follow jug handle so that you have made a left turn onto Lakeside Blvd. Entrance to park is ahead on right. After passing admission booth turn left, you will see our building straight ahead.
