Ocean Grove

A National Historic Landmark resort, Ocean Grove has a fairly unique history for a Jersey beach town. During the Victorian era, visitors to Ocean Grove came in droves for revival meetings. They pitched tents for true “tent meetings” while also enjoying the balmy ocean air.
 
More than 100 of these summer residence tents have survived, although the waiting list is purported to be 30 years long to get one! Don’t despair – you can still enjoy this historic city and its beautiful beaches, even without your own revival tent.
 
Stay at one of the town’s gracious bed and breakfast inns while enjoying the cultural and special events that are held year ’round.
 
If you’re interested in history, visit the Historical Society of Ocean Grove to check out its displays about the town, get maps of two history trails – African American and Woman’s Heritage – or take a guided walking tour.
 
Of course, you can just pull up a chair on a warm summer day and focus on the time-honored tradition of going to the beach.
 
Try sunning, swimming and sailing, which are all centered on beautifully clean and well-maintained sand and sea.
