Phillipsburg

At the confluence of the Delaware and Lehigh rivers and close to the Pocono Mountains, Phillipsburg is set amid beautiful landscapes with water, trees and mountains.

Soak up the natural beauty of the area by taking a historic railroad trip, lazy river ride or hot-air balloon flight.

There’s something inherently romantic about floating quietly above the treetops in a hot-air balloon. The rolling hills and cascading river in Phillipsburg make airborne trips even more special.

Balloonatics and Aeronuts or Have Balloon Will Travel will take you soaring and both offer terrific champagne picnics and sunrise or sunset trips over the Delaware Valley.

Phillipsburg was once a cargo transportation hub, with no fewer than five railroads and the now-defunct Morris Canal bringing goods through town.

Riding the rails is still a great way to see the countryside. The Black River & Western Railroad runs scenic trips along the Delaware River on a fully restored steam engine train.

Several other train groups offer themed outings – check at the Lehigh Junction Station downtown for schedules.

Don’t miss:
• The Ole Towne Festival, held in July
• Lazy River Outpost (4 Union Sq.) for kayak, canoe and inner-tube trips on the Delaware River.

Insider tip: For more hot-air balloon excitement, don’t miss the annual Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning, held in Readington in July. Follow I-78 from Phillipsburg until you see a rainbow of balloons in the sky. The festival also includes amusement rides, live concerts and carnival food.
