Salem
There’s water, water everywhere, with lots to do in beautiful Salem. This historic town has a unique location at the confluence of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Delaware and Salem rivers. Take to the water or just enjoy the views from the renovated downtown.
Salen offers a vast array of outdoor possibilities. Try the Meadow View Acres Campground. For golfers there's the 27-hole Wild Oaks Golf Club. Three excellent areas for viewing local and migratory birds at the Alloway Creek Watershed, the Mannington Meadows Wildlife Refuge and the Stow Creek Viewing Area.
Downtown Salem has undergone a $40 million renovation, creating an enviable combination of preserved historic architecture in a vibrant retail center. Get maps and information at the visitors’ center (1 New Market St.), in a renovated 1928 bank building.
West Broadway and New Market Street are the focus of one-of-a-kind shops and galleries like George's Fault Antiques and Collectibles. Local artists are on display at First Impressions Art Gallery (157 West Broadway); Suse-E-Q’s Cottage (145 West Broadway) features gifts and crafts.
History is all around at the Salem County Historical Society (79 Market St.) and at the 1735 Old Salem County Courthouse, the country’s second-oldest courthouse in continuous use.
