Sports Teams/Venues
Sports, for both spectators and participants, is alive and well in New Jersey, with a wide array to be found all over the state.
For starters, the Meadowlands Sports Complex, in East Rutherford, is home to two NFL teams – the New York Giants and the New York Jets. Starting in 2010, both teams will play in the new 85,500-seat New Meadowlands Stadium Complex, which also hosts professional soccer, concerts and other family events.
The complex includes the IZOD Center, which is home to the NBA New Jersey Nets, hosts concerts and major family-oriented shows throughout the year.
Horse-racing enthusiasts have the Meadowlands Racetrack (which features harness and thoroughbred racing), Monmouth Park in Oceanport and the Freehold Raceway in Freehold.
Auto racing fans have access to seven motorsports tracks, including the state’s newest venue, Thunderbolt Raceway – New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville.
New Jersey is also home to seven minor league baseball teams in family-friendly stadiums spread out across the state.
In winter, there’s no lack of skiing and snow-boarding sites at Mountain Creek and The Hidden Valley Club, both in Vernon. And at High Point State Park, there's the High Point Cross Country Ski Center.
Along New Jersey’s 130 miles of coastline, there are numerous opportunities for surf and sportfishing along with surfing, sailing and other water sports.
