It’s warming up, so head into the great outdoors! Pick from mild-to-wild thrills: peaceful gardens and arboretums to alfresco escapades at Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari (Jackson). New in 2020: the Jersey Devil Coaster, the world's tallest, fastest, longest single rail coaster, reaching screaming speeds up to 58 mph. And don’t forget Hurricane Harbor water park next door.

The NJ Division of Parks & Forestry runs dozens of state parks, forests, recreation areas and historic sites. They’re amazing backdrops for immersing yourself firsthand into our natural and historic world. And did you know the National Park Service manages a number of its units here in New Jersey? Hit our 72-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail from High Point State Park (Sussex), Stokes State Forest (Branchville), Wawayanda State Park (Hewitt) and Worthington State Forest (Columbia).

Worked up an appetite? Sample our state’s unique and diverse food and beverage culture. Begin with the Anthony Bourdain Food Trail, tracing Bourdain’s culinary roots, with ten stops covering Fort Lee to Camden. Soak up our ever-expanding variety of breweries and distilleries, wineries and vineyards.

The World-Famous Jersey Shore Awaits

Nothing quite says feel-good, summer vibes like those free-wheeling days and nights at the incredible Jersey Shore. Spanning 130 miles of Atlantic coastline and over 60 designated beaches, New Jersey boasts so many beloved oceanside delights.

From Sandy Hook with its beckoning lighthouse and fascinating fort over 250 years old, down to Cape May's gingerbread Victorian appeal on our southern tip (both with beaches too!)—and so many points in between—discover a bevy of destinations, each with its own personality.

Beaches, Boardwalks & (Sand) Buckets of Fun

Dig up treasured, white-sand beaches, beautiful barrier islands, bays and charming towns, providing an ideal setting for an array of pursuits. Families return year after year to Long Beach Island, or LBI as the locals know it. Surfers and boogie boarders rip in waves at Long Branch, Brigantine and Manasquan. (Newbies welcome in Belmar, at Summertime Surf’s surfing camps and surfing and paddling lessons...other locations too.) Catch some fishing in Island Beach State Park. Or simply relax in laid-back Avalon and Ocean Grove.

In the years since 1870, when Atlantic City rolled out what’s now the oldest and longest in New Jersey, strolling and playing on the boardwalk has become a state pastime. You can join in—and enjoy the rides, water parks, mini golf, games and iconic boardwalk treats—at places like Seaside Heights, Point Pleasant Beach, Ocean City and Wildwood.

Of course, there’s lots more to explore “Down the Shore.” Dive in to New Jersey’s three Shore Regions (Shore, Greater Atlantic City and Southern Shore) to learn all about our amazing beach destinations and find out which ones are perfect for you!
