Overview

While visiting Ellis Island, take a guided 90 minute tour on the New Jersey side of the island and see inside areas of the abandoned 750 bed Ellis Island hospital complex. These buildings have been off limits to the public since 1951 and each day, a limited number of guests are allowed to tour the decaying facility.

Due to the deteriorated conditions of the buildings and the 1.25 mile walking tour route, guests must wear closed toed shoes and be 18 years of age or older. Individuals between the ages of 12-18 may attend, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The buildings are not ADA compliant so walkers, wheelchairs or scooters are not allowed on the tour.

Proceeds from tour ticket sales go to the New Jersey nonprofit, Save Ellis Island, that is tasked with raising the needed funds to preserve and restore the hospital complex that restored the health of immigrants to America.
