If you’re a train aficionado, head to Northlandz (495 Rt. 202 S.), which houses the world’s largest miniature railroad, with more than 100 trains navigating eight miles of track. The exhibit meanders for a mile and includes minute mountains, cities and bridges. Ride the Raritan River Railway, a replica steam train located here; for a longer excursion, take the scenic Black River & Western Railroad, which runs between Flemington and Ringoes.

For a more historic look at the town, stop by its oldest building, the circa 1756 Samuel Fleming House Museum & Gardens.
